Question by ummm…..i forgot….
Why did auto manufactures call car windows a “tint,” and not a “shade?”?
When a color (or an object that is colored) is “tinted,” it means to add white to the color to make it a lighter color where as “shade,” you add black to a color to darken it. Car windows that are “tinted,” are darker than standard windows or have a different color but are still darker. Why is this referred as “tinting,” instead of “shading?”

because maybe it is windows and that is what the ppl that started tinting called it………its not paint or other stuff and ur not actually adding black….in most cases ur adding a covering and in cases where glass itself is colored its done with heat and such not pigments…..
Window tinting on homes and office buildings predated the automotive markets. The vernacular stuck with the car tinting world.
