Need help choosing blinds/curtains!!! I have no clue what to get…?

We just moved into our brand new town house and we still don’t have blinds on our windows. We need help choosing and would love any advice people on how we should decorate our living room. We have black leather couches (which I’m not too crazy about but, we can’t afford to buy new ones at the moment), the coffee table and end tables are all black wood. We have 9 foot ceiling and it’s an open concept where the living room, dining room and kitchen are all open. We’re not sure what color we should paint the place, nor what colors we should use, and especially what blinds we should get. We saw some Roman Shades that were nice, not sure though. Oh ya, 1 window is 78″ x 68″ and the other is a bay window that is about 100″w x 68″h. The floors are all a light hardwood color. Thanks in advance. Here are some pics:

First of all, this is a gorgeous room! congratulations! I generally don’t like the look of the cheap plastic blinds…especially in a room this pretty!! I love roman shades, but I think in your room, I’d go with wooden blinds. This will allow the light to still shine through those beautiful windows, still give you privacy in the front of your home, and the wood will compliment those beautiful floors. I’d then go with valances or a cornice box made from beatiful fabric to match the rest of your furnishings. Since you plan to keep the black leather furniture for now you might consider a light neutral fabric with a touch of black in the fabric to tie the room together. Replacing the black wood coffee tables and end tables may be somthing you want to consider that would financially be easier to do than replacing the couches. I’d go with something that has both wood grain to match the blinds and floor, but that might also have some black in it like black wraught iron. Here are some pics of some examples of items that I think would look nice in your beautiful home!

Looks like a nice space. I would paint it a light silvery blue and use white wooden blinds on the windows with just a narrow panel of a sheer white curtain. Buy a piece of foam and cover it with a beautiful fabric to make a window seat and hang plants above it. Then buy a big area rug that has some blues in it (and a bit of black if you like), add blue pillows to the couches and some big vibrant accessories.

Looks like a nice house! First of all I think you should decide whether you want to keep the light in the room or shut a lot of it out. There are so many different kinds of blinds that you can look at that it isn’t even funny. I have a small blind and shutter business and I have more different samples than I know what to do with. I think you should go with something a little more neutral that will still let light filter into the room. There are some really nice roller shades that are made these days that you can checkout at home depot. But I also recommend that you call a local blind company, they can come to your home and show you their products there, that way you will have a better idea of what you are looking for and they can often save you money and time. The hunter douglas silhouette is always nice, but not nice on your wallet. There are many other companies that sell a comparable product at a fraction of the cost. Look around a little and see what you find. I am sure there is something for you. Maybe you should consider curtains? Honeycombs and rollers are nice because you can raise them up out of the window with out taking up your view.
